Hi everybody!

My name is Martha and I live in California.
I am teaching my first ESL class right now, but I haven't had any training in how to do it! So I am learning to be a teacher at the same time as I am teaching English. I hope I can learn quickly!

To Ed,
Re: the quotation "East is East"
Here is an explanation which I hope will help you.
"East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet."
The culture of the West (Europe and the Americas) will always be very different from that of the East (Asia). (Twain means “two.”) This saying is part of the refrain of “The Ballad of East and West,” a poem by Rudyard Kipling.
It just means that the East and West are very different from each other!
I hope that helps,
Martha

Hello everyone

My name's Jim (thestudentproofreader) and am from the UK

I like the look of this forum

Very impressed by the visuals

I have recently embarked on proofreading as, to be honest, it's something I like doing

I'd be interested in speaking with both students and fellow post-graduates or others who share my interests of reading/politics/IT and general conversation

Well- I won't make this too long, but, needless to say, I am glad to be here !

PS- I have no idea who the admin is here, hence I can't pm to have a question i need answered

In the (hopeful) case you are reading this, I ask you: do you allow signatures?

Cheers,

Jim
