Hello:

I' interested in text statistics for analyzing patents. I'm looking for shortcuts having machines read patents rather than me.

Nice to make friend with you for further English.
I am working as an assistant of General Director, but I rarely have a good environment to speak English.

Could you help me this? I love English and wish to speak it better.

Thank you

I'm Luka. I'd love to meet other teachers who have the experience in teaching children ESL programs in Taiwan to share teaching experience as well as to find potential teachers or partners for my own language school, which will be set up in 6 months~1 year.

Hello there. My name's Jason Corner, I'm 34 years of age and am doing a full-time PGCE at Hull college. I'm trying to develop as an English teacher as that is my subject specialism and am always on the lookout for useful websites which could possibly be of some help to me in my teaching. I'm currently teaching a level 4 language course which is primarily linguistics based and as of next week I'll be doing some A - level teaching at the college. I've already had some teaching experience at very low level English dealing with extremely disengaged learners on a course called E2e (entry to emplyment) but it is the level 4 language teaching I'm involved in at the moment which is really where I feel at home. The students want to be there so obviuosly it's a much better lesson all round really. I do have a question: one of my students asked me last week whether there is such a thing as a 'language window'? Is there a time in a person's life when their language window (ability to learn their first language etc.) closes? Does this prevent them from learning completely, say another language or even their own another time in their life if they have missed out on a great deal of the early building blocks of langugae? I find the whole question of a language window a bit strange amd I'm not completely 100% sure if I even understand fully what the student was getting at although I believe she was just meaning that we are only fully receptive to language learning up to a certain point and if we haven't learned the language or the building blocks of it, we may have severe barriers to learning? Does anybody out there have any answer to this as it's been driving me round the bend and I really need to have an answer for this particular student (apart from the fact that I need to know myself!). I cannot find anything on the subject anywhere and am exhausted! Thankyou very much for your time. Jason Corner (a tired, frazzled PGCE student!).

I live in the state of Mississippi in the USA. Some would say that English is a second language to Southerners, so if I sound funny, just ask me to clarify! I have a BA in English and once taught composition in college. Now I'm a retired accountant doing some writing.

Interesting Site!

Hi I'm alex from Malaysia. Presently teaching English to primary pupils aged 7. Hoping to gain some advice on how to get pupils interested in English as the language is still regarded as unimportant if you intend to earn a living in Malaysia.

Hello all:
I'm retired from a construction-related field, and my wife is a US public elementary school teacher. She has said that I should be an English teacher, but I have too many questions about the language myself even to entertain the idea. Even so, she submits all her "write-ups" (class newsletters, pupil appraisals, etc.) for my "seal of approval."
She also calls me her walking dictionary, because I always have a ready response when she asks about a word. The reason, though, is that usually I have (recently) read what she is reading and looked up the words she is asking about.
So, life goes on.
