Grammatically correct sentence without using the words - HIM/HER.

Sentence
When the user registers to the Portal, his/her account is created.

I can paraphrase the sentence the above sentence like - When the users register themselves to the Portal, their user accounts will be created.

I want to talk about a single user, hence the problem.

2. What is the correct usage of "-" (dash). In what instances, I can use "-" in the sentences.

Please help....

Thanks in advance... :)

These days it is becoming increasingly acceptable to use 'they/them/their' with a singular subject - When the user registers to the Portal, their account is created.

People who do not like this can usually use plural nouns - When users register to the Portal, their account is created.

Please start a new thread with your question about the dash.

Please be clear in that new thread whether you are talking about a hyphen (-) or a dash (—).

I am moving this thread because it is not a question about teaching English.

I apologize for the mistake, Tdol.
