He taken good care of in the hospital, his parents felt relieved and went home. (A Complete Collection of English Sentence Patterns, by Yang Yuanxing et al., page 888)
Is the above sentence grammatically correct?

Are the sentences below grammatically correct?
The bridge destroyed, they had to swim across the river.
His parents arrested, he could do nothing but give himself up to the police.
Their son killed in an accident, they were deeply grieved.
Her insulted and deserted by her boyfriend, we decided to give him a lesson.

2 out of 5 wrong. That's not a great result for a text book.

I'd say yes.

In my view, they should all include 'With' at the beginning to be greatly improved.

Absolutely not. He means this:

(With) him taken good care of in the hospital, ...

Even this is horribly phrased.

Why are you reading such poor books, @sitifan?

@sitifan

Are these books by Ho, Zheng, and Yang part of your school's syllabus? Or are you reading them by choice? As an English teacher yourself, why are you not reading decent books?

With him having been taken good care of in the hospital ....

Their son having been killed in an accident....

Her boyfriend insulted her and deserted her. We decided to teach him a lesson.

That one needed to be rewritten entirely.

I am reading them by choice because they were all written by prestigious professors or teachers of English.
My experience of teaching in China led me to believe that many 'renowned/famous/prestigious' professors or teachers of English had serious gaps in their understanding of English grammar.

Many non-native teachers do not have the personal knowledge of using the language that native speakers have. . They teach what they have been taught by other non-native teachers. I have enormous respect for such non-native academic writers such as Chrisophersen, Declerck, Jespersen, Kruisinga, Poutsma, Sandved, Svartvik, Zandvoort and others, all of whom have a greater understanding of how English works than most native speakers, and who have helped us increase our understanding of English. However, I would recommend to non-native speakers who wish to become teachers that they use reference books written by native speakers.

(I also respect the thousands of non-native-speaking teachers who do a wonderful job of teaching English all over the world.)

They're not considered prestigious by us. Far from it.

I know it's not easy to judge how good a textbook is if you're not trained or experienced in doing so, but if you select books written by native English speakers, there will be an increased chance that the author is highly proficient. At the very least, you'll have something of a guarantee that the author has a sense of natural grammar, even if he's a terrible writer. If you want some recommendations, ask us. You don't have to rely on prestige.
