Coleman-Liau Grade

Hi, I am trying to interpret the Coleman-Liau Grade (overall). Coleman-Liau Index = (5.89 * characters/words) − (0.3 * sentences /(100 * words)) − 15.8 How does this link to the calculated grade? In other words, if the Coleman-Liau Grade (Overall) is 25.53 what does this mean in comparison to a score of 18? How do you interpret the score? Thanks, S

You relate it, like many other reading tests, to American grade scores.

Thanks for your reply. I am assuming the Coleman-Liau Grade formula scores an abstract of text at a grade level. In other words, a Coleman-Liau Grade score of 10.6 roughly equates to a 10-11[SUP]th[/SUP]grade high school student. However, when using the Coleman-Liau in UsingEnglish.Com I get an overall score of 20+ on many occasions. How does a score of 25.53 relate to the appropriate American grade score/education level?
