Irregular plurals poem activities

Do the activity or activities below that your teacher tells you to:

  • read out the poem with the right pronunciation
  • put a mixed-up version into order
  • change the singular nouns into the right plural forms

Mixed version

Match the lines on the right to the ones on the left by meaning and rhyming word.

I had a meeting with ten men.

I really like to eat red meat

Lifting the lips, he found beneath

They were prepared to construct the wooden shelves

Husbands say they love and trust their wives

In autumn my garden was invaded by thieves

This pool can’t be very deep

He battled past two giant squid

Without flour, water, bowls or stoves

It’s true my hair is full of lice

My brothers don’t do things by halves

Looked at them from very near

This Christmas will be a time of peace

I can’t say for certain what I saw

I guess this horse hardly ever moves

A hundred sharp and bloody teeth

All of them called Bill or Ben.

But feel nervous when they have sharp knives

But it looked like a bus full of wild boar

But not to cut the trees themselves

But this steak measures fifteen feet!

But your wig has seven mice!

By the end they had taken all the leaves

He realised they were angry deer

He’s wearing slippers on all his hooves

I used my brains and quietly hid

It’s filled with happy-looking sheep

They made soup and ninety loaves

They spent two hours on just their calves

With no more fights between ducks and geese

Singular nouns version

Use the rhyming words and your knowledge of plurals to put the right form of each noun below. Sometimes both ending words need to be changed, and some can stay the same.

But this steak measures fifteen foot!

Lifting the lips, he found beneath

He battled past two giant squid

I used my brains and quietly hid

Without flour, water, bowls or stoves

It’s true my hair is full of louse

But your wig has seven mouse

My brothers don’t do things by half
