It depends- if you are forced to use terrible materials, it can soul-destroying.

If the teacher is any good, he'll find better materials. If he's forced, well... that's his problem with his employer

I am not sure how having good materials to use could break a teacher although I can imagine that while most would find bad materials a challenge a few could find themselves made as as a teacher by accepting that challenge.
