MrTrilby

"He hurt me badly" means "he tried to hurt me, but wasn't very good at it".

sajjady_winner

i want to study English very well.

gardemarine

MrTrilby, no, it means that he hurt me in such a way that I have scars and bruises on my body.

Lynque

Well, what does 'badly' mean here, 'poorly,' 'extensively,' 'severely,' etc.?

Kimmikoto

It has to be Badly because Word Perfect says 'Normally an adjective like bad doesn't modify a verb.'

Statuess

Badly, based on the fact that you could rearrange the sentence into the passive form 'I was badly hurt by him'.
