" x paired with y" verb in singular or plural

It contains a certain melancholy paired with weariness that touch(es) everyone.

If I wrote "and" instead of "paired with", it would be plural. However, I think the sentence with "paired with" sounds better with "touches". Any thoughts?

I think 'paired with weariness' functions as an adjective, which does not make a noun plural.
