I was wondering if 'from' is necessary in the construction: starting + (from) + today, tomorrow, next week... these adverbs indicating time

Both "starting + today" and "starting + from + today" are correct English (althought "from" is not necessary), but they may have a slightly different connotation since "starting today" indicates that the action starts exactly today, whereas "starting from" suggests - or may suggest - a starting point from today as a period.
