[General] Pronunciation of "mischievous"

Dear Teachers

I look up the dictionary, and it states that "mischievous" is pronouncedˈ/mɪs.tʃɪ.vəs/, but when I travel around in the New York and London, I heard native English spkears pronouncing /mis.tʃɪ.vi.əs/ instead. So which one is correct?

And, at IELTS speaking, should I avoid saying this word, or which pronunciation should I use?

It has 3 syllables. People who say mischievious are mistaken.

It is a common mistake among native speakers in some parts of the UK.

Maybe they say it to rhyme with "previous, devious...". I think the pronunciation would have preceded the spelling error - maybe.

Always play safe in exams- use the dictionary version.
