In the following sentence, does the subject-verb agreement apply or the subjunctive (rule?)? I'm rather confused...If the singular verb "attends" is incorrect, please help me to understand the reason.

1a) It is important she attend the meeting OR
1b) It is important she attends the meeting.

2) should the word "that" be used in the above sentences? --> It is important THAT she........
- is there a rule to the use of "that"?

Thank you!

Re: have or had

I would use the present subjunctive in 'It is important that she attend the meeting'.

Not a teacher.

Re: have or had

Most BE speakers would say 'attends'.

I would insert 'that'.

I would say "it is important that she attend the meeting".

Re: have or had

As far as I know many BrE speakers will use "should" to avoid the present subjunctive.

Re: have or had

Yes, I might also choose to say 'It is important that she should attend the meeting'.
