Why is there "the" before a name? I assume that's because Gloria Monroe this evening looks more lovely than she usually does, so "the lovely Gloria Monroe", as in "This is not the Chicago I remember." (This is not the one from what I remember.)

Does this make sense?

[Edit: Changed "is more lovely" to "looks more lovely", and "she usually is" to "she usually does".]
