Have you never come across 'some of it' before?
This is singular and perfectly acceptable. The 'it' could be the painting, for instance.

To me, if "some part" and "some parts" have the same meaning, I will prefer using "some parts". Using "Some part" with a singular verb seems to be artificial even though it is grammatically correct as the meaning here obviously refer to more than one part and therefore, to me, the sentence should be in plural form.
