give someone (the) hope that

Hi.

Rached sees Mr. Salvatore sitting alone in the hall. She sits near him and tells the sentence below:

''The doctors and the nurses here, they want to give you hope that one day you can leave here and see your family again.''

Taken from the show 'Rached' (S01E01)

I'd like to ask if it is optional to put 'the' before 'hope'(...give you the hope that...) or not. Why does she not use it?

The hope: the specific hope I'm about to describe. Hope:
hope of the kind I'm about to mention but in a general sense.

There's little difference in meaning.

Tells the sentence: Says something while speaking to the sentence. This doesn't make sense. Says the sentence: speaks the following words.
 
The show is called "Ratched".
