When talking about fashion from different periods should I use "the" before"fashion?" And does "back on trend" sound idiomatic?

"I think that (the) fashion from the 90s will return to the world one day. I like dresses which are now back on trend."

Perhaps:

I think the fashions from the 90s will come back some day. I like dresses that are back in fashion.

Could you tell me why it's wrong to use "the fashion"?

I wouldn't use yours or Tarheel's. I'd say "I think 90s fashion will come back ...".
