Our rubbish (garbage) is collected weekly by the bin men. Bin men are refuse collectors but we refer to them as bin men still because they used to empty our metal bins ( in the past these were entirely necessary as they would hold ashes, at times very hot ones) before they were replaced by the new plastic ones. The plastic ones come in a variety of colours and there is no standardisation between councils. In general a black bin is used for rubbish and other colours for sorted refuse for recycling.
