[Grammar] Can I put an indefinite article before a possessive noun?

You are not authorized to speak for "most grammarians". I am not even certain that "grammarian" has been defined to the level that you use the word.
 
'Functioning as an adjective' is not the same thing as 'being an adjective', so I wonder why Piscean said such things as 'make them adjectives' and 'transform them into adjectives' and why Weaver67 said 'absolutely equal'.

On that note, I declare the thread done and dusted.
 
There is no transformation needed. It is based on function. And the function is clear to most of us.

Just to add one brief point to a closed thread, transformation and other ways of testing do offer clues to the form being tested.
