1. Can I not write 'my' again after 'and' since both are mine.

2. Are these 2 sentences correct? I tend not to repeat the subject in this type of sentence.
a. Mr Smith works as an engineer and he lives in Canada.
b. Mr Smith works as an engineer and lives in Canada.
