A french term? used in English to describe disagreement?

There is a term which I believe to be french that is used in English to describe a disagreement between two people.
It sounds like "con tra tore". i.e. We had a "con tra tore" on that occasion also.
An inability to agree, an argument? Anyone know of this term?
