Am I correct in assuming that the expression "to meet trouble half-way" means "to worry about something you cannot change"?
I have come across this expression in Maugham's Cakes and Ale:
Hallo Armstrong, we want some of the Liebraumilch (wine), the "21"
Very good, sir
How's it holding up? Pretty well? We shan't be able to get any more of it, you know
I'm afraid not, sir
Well, it's no good meeting trouble half-way, is it, Armstrong?
No, sir
