In this original sentence, I don't know if both words are correct (ie. mean the same thing)

a) I found the jewellery by chance

b) I found the jewellery by accident

It seemed okay to use "chance" or "accident". But I am not sure if there is any difference at all.

Both mean the same to me, i.e. unintentionally.

In this original sentence, I wrote the following sentences but I don't know if both words are correct (ie. "chance" and "accident" mean the same thing.

a) I found the jewellery by chance.
b) I found the jewellery by accident.

It seemed seems to me that it's okay to use "chance" or "accident" no full stop here but I am not sure if there is any difference at all.

Note my changes above.

I suppose you could use either one.

It's lucky to find jewelry you hadn't been looking for.

by chance has more of a sense of fortune, which is probably what you mean here.

by accident has more of a sense of misfortune.
