Talking about seasons with adverbs of frequency

Talking about seasons with adverbs of frequency guessing game

Choose one season and give hints like those below about which one you are thinking of until your partner guesses correctly. They can only guess once per hint, so continue giving hints until they guess correctly. When they have guessed the right season, discuss if the sentences that you said are also true about your partner or, then switch roles and try to guess the same or a different season that they choose. Take turns doing the same until your teacher tells you to stop.

Useful language for doing the activity

“No, I always/ rarely/… do that in spring/ summer/…. I’ll give you another hint.”

“Yes, that’s right. What about you? … you…?”

“(Un)like you I often/ rarely/… … in…”

Share one thing you have in common with your partner and see if anyone else in the class is the same.

Talking about seasons with adverbs of frequency things in common

Try to find sentences including names of seasons and adverbs of frequency which are exactly the same for your partner in exchanges like “I always wear a hat in the summer” “Me too”. Your teacher will tell you if/ when you can use the next page to help.

Useful language for doing the activity

“Me too./ So do I./ So am I.”

“Really? I… do that at that time.”

Share one thing in common and see how many people in the class share that thing.

Ask about anything below which you don’t understand, couldn’t use, etc, working together to find things in common using that language each time.

Change partners. Do the same, but without the page below to help, and talking about specific months such as February (instead of seasons more generally).
