I wanted to play crossword puzzles with a friend of mine. After I took a look at the puzzle, I thought the cross section was easier than the down section. So I said to him:

You do the cross and I down.

Is the italic sentence natural?

We don't "play" crossword puzzles. We just "do a crossword".
The two sets of clues are called "Across" and "Down".

You do the across clues and I'll do the down ones.
