Can I say the following? If they are OK, what are the differences in meaning between (b) and (e), (d) and (f)?

e. 'Gary phoned while you were out.' 'Yes, I knew. I'm going to call him back.'
f.
'Anna is in hospital.' 'Yes, I knew. I'm going to visit her this evening.'

b. 'Gary phoned while you were out.' 'Yes, I know. I'm going to call him back.'
e. 'Gary phoned while you were out.' 'Yes, I knew. I'm going to call him back.'

d. 'Anna is in hospital.' 'Yes, I know. I'm going to visit her this evening.'
f. 'Anna is in hospital.' 'Yes, I knew. I'm going to visit her this evening.'

The use of past-tense 'knew' in (e) and (f) may suggest that this is fairly old news.
Just a minor correction. :)
