Hi teachers,

Is ""XXX has been given the permission by the author" correct?

Thanks.

I am not a teacher.

Without context I'd drop the first 'the'.

I would use either "... has been given the permission of the author" or "... has been given permission by the author".

Would the active voice be more natural?
For example, 'XXX has obtained the author's permission'.

Not a teacher.

I don't find your version any more natural but it's equally acceptable and grammatical.
