[General] Word Stress Within a Sentence

Hi, when I pronounce the question: Where did you put it? and I want to know where someone put something (Without putting the emphasize on the person. There is just one person and he knows that I'm asking him) I hear some stress on "Where" and "put". Am I correct?

Where did you put it? (lower stress on the WH question, higher stress on put)
[ˌwɛər dɪdʒə ˈpʊ_dɪt?]

I suppose "put it" is not a phrasal verb in the question above, so we don't need to stress the particle. When I don't emphasize the person like I said above I think "did you" doesn't need to be stressed. Am I right?

Yes, 'did you' does not need to be stressed. The word 'put' should carry the primary stress.
