I've tried to use "acclaim" in my sentences. Have I made any mistakes?

1. Tom Collins' new novel has been acclaimed as a masterpiece.
2. Although Peter's films received much acclaim by critics, they were never popular with ordinary public.
3. The new stadium was opened to great public acclaim.

The first and third are okay. Use "with the general public" at the end of the second.
