1. I don't know about golf a lot. But why is it "lowest score"? Isn't it "highest score"?

No, it's the lowest score. You want to get round the course with as few shots as possible. Someone who scores 96 will lose to someone who scores 92.
 
Well, I'm not a golfer, but I can pretend to be one, because I know it's strokes and not shots.
