[Grammar] Why "in" was omitted here?

Why it is "describe sb. this way" instead of "describe sb. in this way" ?
Why "in" was omitted here?

This is just the way you say it. "in this way" sounds very formal to me in this context (if it is correct at all).
Notice, that I didn't say: "This is just the way you say it in." Same here. You could say "This is just the way in which you say it.", but it's a pointless formalism.
