Who are you having dinner with? I say:

New friends I've met in the last month or so. Why? Are you coming?

vs

New friends I met in the last month or so. Why? Are you coming?

What's the difference, are both okay?

I prefer your first because the meetings have evidently taken place over a period of time. Your second needs a capital letter at the beginning.
