I'm explaining a kanji (a chinese character used in the Japanese language) to American people.

1. This kanji is used almost only for this phrase.
2. This kanji is almost only used for this phrase.

Which is correct (or more natural)?

They are both correct and equivalent for me.

For this phrase or in this phrase?

I'd say, "This kanji is used almost solely for this phrase."

Does the kanji represent the whole phrase (for) or a part (in)?
I see. Since the kanji represents a part of the phrase, now I think it should be "in".
Thank you for pointing that out. :)
