I want to say there were some ferries on a river.

Can I use "ferry-dotted river"? What are some other options?

A high sun sparkled off the ferry-dotted Seine.

It's fine to me.

What other options do I have?

The midday sunshine danced on the rippling wakes of the ferries that plied the Seine.

Al, I need to take a short break from UsingEnglish. Keep up the good work!

Do you mean waves or wakes?

The Seine glistened under the midday sun as waves rippled from the ferries plying on it.

"Wakes" was the correct word. See the "Noun (2)" definition here.
