when raindrops gather on the windshield

Hello.

When you are driving and it starts to drizzle, raindrops slowly gather on your windshield and obscure your view. I'm looking for a colorful way to describe this. Obviously, I can use "gather" or "accumulate" but that doesn't do the trick for me.
 
Here are three verbs:

- spatter
- splatter
- pelt

Let's see if there are other ideas.
 
The raindrops on the windshield become denser until vision is totally obscured.
