Hi.

A friend of mine asks me if I was a hardworking student or not and I say:

1- I did not study hard when I was in high school.
2-
I did not study hard in high school.

Are both sentences the same in meaning? Can I omit the part 'when I was' and instead write only 'in high school'?

For information, BrE speakers are more likely to use "at high/secondary school". Also, in a casual conversation with a friend, we'd use the contracted "didn't", not "did not".
