I'm not sure what I should put between the verb recover and the noun (feeling) or whether I should put anything at all. For example, in the sentence below (mine)...

When he recovered from his/the/(no word) confusion, he finally talked and introduced himself.

Are all those options correct/natural?

With "his" it is a personal condition with no indication of the cause. With "the" it suggests the inclusion of an external event(s) that caused his confusion.
