I know this probably sounds unusual to some people, but are they acceptable to you?

1. When being a child, I lived in London.

2. He lost his parents when being twelve.

Grateful to you all.

No, not acceptable.

When I was a child,

... when he was twelve.

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Panicmonger,

I think that some people would suggest:

As a child, I lived in London.

Many English speakers like short sentences that come to the point.

The goal is to eliminate unnecessary words.
