what's the meaning of "drag" and "graying" in the sentence?
:You hear a lot about the drag that the graying of the baby boomers could have on long-term economic growth.

thanks

Baby boomers are those who were born between 1946 and 1964, who are now in their fifties and sixties.
Drag means the slowing down of their physical performance. Graying refers to the changing of their hair colour to gray as part of the aging process.

I disagree with tedmc about the use of the word "drag". "Drag" is connected to "long-term economic growth". The ageing population is having a slowing-down effect on long-term economic growth. An ageing population costs a country a lot of money and the older they get, the more they cost.

There are also a lot of baby boomers- the demographic dividend they brought when working is having the reverse effect as they age and retire.
