What's the difference between "target audience" and "targeted audience"?

Dear experts,

While reading articles about marketing communications I've come across both variants "target audience" and "targeted audience" (the audience a company wants to engage). Which of these two phrases sounds more English? Which of them is more common in use?

Thank you!

Target audience.

 'Targeted' is usually reserved for a document or a message or product: 'This hand-out is really well targeted. It speaks directly to the target audience.'
