Hi,

Which sentence/s is/are correct?

1) What language word is "play"?
2) Which language word is "play"?
3) What language is the word "play"?
4) Which language is the word "play"?

1) and 2) are unnatural. 3) and 4) are okay. Of course "play" is English but that surely cannot be what you are asking. If you are asking about its etymology, it comes from Old English.

All those sentences are no good. Are you asking about the part of speech or the language it comes from?
Thanks for the reply. I know it's an English word. I just want to know how to ask someone the origin of words in English.

Thanks for the reply. How to ask someone in English?

Say: "How should I ask someone in English?"

Try: "What's the origin of that word?"

Your question isn't clear.

If you're asking about the origin of "play", the word "language" isn't needed.

Or are you asking what language "play" is from?

What is the origin of the word "play"? Correct
What language the word "play" is from? Is it also correct?

Question: What language the word "play" is from?
a) Turkish
b) English
c) Arabic

My best guess is that it was adopted by Old English from Dutch.
