What really is a critical description? dying for help!

I am told to write an essay providing critical descriptions of research...

If I am giving descriptions, it should be neutral, right? Criticality should be seen in giving opinions or evaluating research?

If I am giving descriptions, it should be neutral, right? No, not if you're asked for a critical description.
Criticality should be seen in giving opinions or evaluating research? Yes.

Description: "The girl is wearing a blue top and green jeans."
Critical description. "The blue top doesn't go with the green jeans that the girl is wearing. This is a fashion mistake."
You still describe, but you describe critically.
For research, you could criticise the research methods (methodology), the premises, the conclusions, etc. while still describing the research.
