There is no single correct response. It depends on the context but "You're welcome" usually works in British English. I've noticed recently that some British English speakers have adopted "No problem" and "Sure" as responses. I associate both of those with American English.

I think "you're welcome" is still number 1 in America.

Also 'My pleasure' (British) and (I don't like this much) 'No worries' (Australian).

I'll never forget an American guy holding a door open for me at the gift shop of Yosemite National Park. When I thanked him, he said 'Certainly'.

I'd concur that "you're welcome" is probably the most common, but I've on rare occasion heard 'my pleasure' used in AmE as well.

I will often just smile, nod, and say 'uhm-hmm' in a pleasant tone.

"You're welcome" is your best bet.
