Welcome to the board, kazewolf.

For a start, always capitalise I.

Kasewolf,

I commend you for being such a conscientious student. You

are correct: a large vocabulary is very important.

I suggest that you google your request. For example,

I just googled "Top 1,000 Vocabulary Words" and got many

results. I am sure that you can find a list of the most important

100, or 500, or 1,000 words in English. I also suggest that you

check out the website of the Oxford English Dictionary. It has

wonderful discussions about vocabulary.

THANK YOU & GOOD LUCK

A strange request no doubt ... every word in any language has its relevant meaning and place in a sentence ...you should learn all of them, one step at a time. Regarding that writing you need to do for school, it depends on what the essay or writing is about, you can use simple words, technical terms, slangwords, colloquial speech... the possibilites are endless.
Because of the lack of information you are providing us with, your query is very difficult to reply to and still fully satisfy your thirst for knowledge but The Parser ( God praise him ! ) just gave you a very good pointer there, just google the Top 1000 Words in the english language and see what comes up ... good luck !

An impossible task, Fabio.

I've been a native English speaker for 68 years and continue to encounter new words on a regular basis - many of them from this very forum.

A lot of them are specialised terms, archaic expressions and obscure words which I'm never going to use as long as I live.

Your suggestion that kazewolf looks at the top 1,000 words is much better advice.

Do you read books kazewolf? If not, try reading some two good books. You will see your vocabulary improve.

Thank you Rover for the edit, i will be taking note of that and i always forget to capitalise the I, which is a very bad habit...

To Parser, thank you for the extolment and yes i will search up the top 1000 words and the oxford english dicitonary.

Thank you Fabio for replying, i will be mostly focusing on adjectives and verbs.

Thanks birden for the recommendation on books, yes i do read them from time to time, I am currently reading "The Black Hole War" by Leonard Susskind, a very interesting book that explains some physics mostly related with Astronomy.

Are you kidding me, or what?

You failed to capitalise I five more times in that last post.

If you're going to be deliberately obtuse don't expect any more help from me.

Oh...
I am sorry but I'm not doing it deliberately, I'm trying to correct my mistake. Most of the time I just don't realise how many Is I type. I am very sorry, I am a slow learner but I am not doing it deliberately.. Sorry.

Fair enough. It would help if you were to proofread your own text before you post it.

I shall now respond to your "I"."Me"."Myself" question.

You are in very good hands. Leonard Susskind is a very respectable physicist, who has been recently concerned with explaining some physics stuff for the laymen as well. There are also some videos of him lecturing on quantum physics and the like available in the Internet.

Don't worry kazwolf,
we are all learning all the time. Just keep practicing.
Just so you know, Rover_KE is not alone in his worries about yours not capitalizing I's properly. You may not find it so important now but, believe us, it is really a very important thing. Also try to capitalize English and other languages. If you remember capitalizing the I's and the languages you sure boost your English a big deal.

But do you think it's the right book to read to improve your general vocabulary? It won't harm you, sure, but I was thinking about some lighter things...

Well BC I thought the same, but tried not to mention it.

Usually I would not recommend reading such a book with the main goal of enhancing one's vocabulary, specially for beginner or intermediate students. But the exception is if you really like the subject of the book.

If the subject covered by the book has a great appeal to you, and if you try to read it with the aid of a translated copy by the side for instance, then you may succeed in learning some English.

That's right, but I will insist that reading something less demanding too will turn out fruitful.

Thanks guys, yes I will choose an easier book in the future. I usually keep a dictionary with me when I'm reading a book, so when I come across a word that I don't know, I search it up.Which happens very often in this book.

Thank you.
