what does it mean by "throw me off"?

Hi teachers,

what does it mean by "throw me off"? The meaning from my dictionary doesn't make sense to me.

It usually means that something gets you confused, side tracked, mislead. :-D
 
Could u show me couple examples on how you use it in a complete sentence? under what circumstances do u use it? Thanks.:oops:

Those math questions on my last quiz totally threw me off. = they confused me.

The cab driver's directions threw us off completely and as a result we got to Jennie's home really late. = those directions were very confusing.

The murderer kept on changing his location to throw the police off his track. = he kept on misleading them.
