What's the correct answer to "What are you thinking right now?"

A man and a woman are having a chat now.

Woman: What are you thinking right now ?

1. Man. I was thinking whether I had enough money to buy a new car.(Actually, he wants to buy a new car)
2. Man: I'm thinking whether I have enough money to buy a new car.

What are you thinking right now ?
3. I was thinking about what you just asked me.
4. I'm thinking about what you just asked me.

Can anybody help?

Thank you.

There's no correct answer. This is simply a situation in which the woman is finding the man uncommunicative. She will probably not care as much about his grammar than about whether he shares his thoughts and feelings with her.

However, in the very unlikely event that she's also a grammar teacher, she has no grounds for complaint from either answer. He is either giving his thoughts at the time the question was asked, or at the time after which the question was processed. However, if he says, "I'm wondering why you asked me what I was thinking", that's not playing the game by the rules.

Thanks VIP memeber Raymott.

Are 'I was thinking ' and 'I'm thinking' both correct?

"... if she's also a grammar teacher, she has no grounds for complaint from either answer" => Yes, they are both correct.
