Hello
I'd like to better understand the meaning of the sentence:"We were silent in our sadness".
I'm currently translating "The Butterfly Lion" by M. Morpurgo. I don't need/want the translation, of course.
it is about a boy and a girl who must part. They talk a lot, they are in love with each other but their love is unspoken, they know it when their eyes meet etc.
Meaning A
They did not tell each other they were sad (I'd go for it since they meet every Sunday afternoon and talk)
Meaning B
their sadness makes them silent
Which one?
thanks a lot in advance

Hi,
According to my opinion, the answer is close to be (A).Because they did not all be unable to crossing the grief at the time they were to each other needy.thank you.wish to you all the best :)

I'd go with A. As Hemingway might have put it, "We were sad but said nothing."

thanks, Hemingway forever
