I have some trouble with paraphrasing the following sentence:

We were delayed for an hour on the bus while the procession went past.

The begging of the paraphrased sentence must begin with The procession passed...

After analyzing the sentence I concluded that while serves here as a constrastive conjuction. So I completed the sentence with one of the contrastive adverbs:

The proccession passed, in contrast we were delayed for an hour on the bus.

I'm not certain about the comma and the whole sentence sounds kind of clanky but I can't seem to find a better alternative so I would really appreciate any help.

mrsgraves, please note that I have changed your thread title.

Extract from the Posting Guidelines:

'Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.'

Paraphrasing it wouldn't require "while" or anything similar.

Our bus was delayed for an hour by a passing procession.

That's about as brief as I can make it without losing any relevant information.
