Hi.

Is the following sentence natural? Would native speakers use it? The source is not known now. I wrote this sentence down many years ago from a Chinese-English webiste.

We visited a stately home and the guide showed us nearly everything except one room, which he said was the owner's holy of holies.

Yes, it's fine.
 
I don't see the need for both "nearly" and "except". He showed you nearly everything or he showed you everything except one room.
