What does the following sentence mean?

The following sentence is about Dell's personnel issue. It is explaining why they had to select the Dell guy for the new CEO of the combined company after Dell acquired EMC.
But I don't understand why the Dell guy is more qualified.

"But the hard truth was that the Dell guy, being newly appointed, was in a position to grow up in a role where all he knew was the combined organization, and thus could give the merged companies a perspective that wasn’t steeped in one legacy company or another."

Before we continue, please correct the spelling of "following" in the opening sentence, and correct the capitalisation of "Dell". You wrote the word four times in three short sentences but only capitalised it twice.

I corrected the wrong spelling.

The newly appointed man from Dell was chosen as the CEO of the new merged company because he wouldn't be influenced by any history of working just for Dell. He is able to come to the new company with no "baggage". He can take on the role of CEO of the new company and progress only knowing the new company from its inception.
