[General] Was I being criticized?

I am a graphic artist and did a design for a new customer. When I showed it to him, he said "insight and idiom have to mature like wine IMHO". Then he made some suggested changes.

I don't think he was being condescending, at least I didn't get that impression; was he being critical?
 
Not necessarily- he could have meant that you had made a good start, but the work would improve over time after you had incorporated his changes.
 
Thank you; I feel better about it now. It isn't that I can't take criticism or don't want it, but sometimes people can disguise what they really mean.
 
Do you mean that he suggested some changes?
